Our Mission

We believe people should not surround themselves with factory-produced pieces from big box stores and watch as they break down and fall apart before their eyes.

We strive to empower people to be intentional and seek out art and treasured items to fortify their home with items that carry a personal connection; an expression of what they love and appreciate.

From first sketch to the final coat of finish, we are here to make the process fun, unique, and truly yours, producing heirloom pieces for you and your family to enjoy for years to come.

Hello!

Originally from Buffalo, NY (Go Bills), David went to school in Burlington, VT, and has been living in Massachusetts since 2014.

Making Wood Dust was named after an errant comment his Dad made years ago about time in his own Woodshop: “Even if everything goes wrong in the shop, you can always just say you were making wood dust.”

David’s interest in woodworking started when he was a Boy Scout; hanging around the campsite, using his pocket knife to turn sticks into pointy sticks. Since then, he has acquired tools far beyond a pocket knife, and has been turning sticks into much more functional and interesting projects than just something to poke your friends with.

Feel free to reach out and ask him any questions, or to simply say hello!

The Shop & The Team

Making Wood Dust Headquarters and main Woodshop is in Lunenburg, Massachusetts - about an hour outside of Boston.
However, the full team is spread across the greater Northeast US, with consultants ranging from Buffalo, NY to Gray, Maine.

The wood that we select for projects is predominantly American hardwoods of Cherry, Maple, and Walnut.
These are cost effective for the customer, hearty, local, relatively safe for food contact (if the project requires that consideration) and offer a beautiful array of natural colors without needing artificial stains or dyes to look great.
However, we have also used over a dozen other wood species depending on the project need, from Acacia to Zebrawood.
